Psychedelic
No, this is not psychedelic art by Andy Warhol. It is part of the Tanezrouft (waterless plains) region of southern Algeria. This inhospitable area is also known as the Land of Terror. Although there is evidence of erosion by water in the image, Aeolian processes are responsible for many of the features seen here since this area averages no more than 3 inches of rainfall per year. A common misconception about the Sahara desert is that it is mostly sand dunes. In fact, much of the Sahara is like this: a dry gravel surface that can be very abrasive when the wind blows.
