Although the rich, wavy blue in this image may look like water, it is not. This image is a view of the Sahara Desert in southwest Libya near the Dune image. Rain is extremely rare in this barren landscape, and travel across these dunes is all but impossible. The desert wind has sculpted a multitude of shapes and swirls in the sand, creating an apparent 3-dimensional texture on this print. The transition of colors from blue through green and gold to red is due to differences in the mineral composition of the sand in this region. These colors cannot be seen in visible light.
